What’s stopping you from getting better?
You know you need to get better. You know what to do to get better. But resistance is winning. Something is stopping you. There are barriers you must get around or hurdles you must overcome.
Identifying these obstacles is a key to moving forward. An easy way to do this is to make a list of where you need to grow or improve, and then next to each item write down what’s stopping you. What you’ll find is that progress is easier than you’ve believed.
Let’s say for example, that you want to get healthier and know you need to exercise. What’s stopping you is you don’t like going to the gym. Or maybe the gym is too far. Whatever it is, not working out always wins over working out.
What if you went for a walk instead? What if you bought a few weights to have at your house so you could work out in a spare bedroom or the garage? Barrier removed. Progress made.
If we’re not careful, these barriers become excuses. They convince us that there is only one path to progress and that path is blocked. And so we give up.
You can always find a new path. Do the work to remove the barriers to your progress.
