Win the moment
Thursday, November 9
Yesterday we talked about winning the day. It’s a common phrase used to help people break down big picture goals into smaller, more practical steps. Today I want to break it down even more.
What does winning the next moment look like? Think about a football game. There are roughly 180 plays in a game. The goal, obviously, is to win the game. It’s a long game where a lot of things can happen. So the goal becomes win the next play. You can’t control the 4th quarter in the 1st quarter. You can’t control what happens on play 147 when you’re on play 27. You can only control the next play.
What do you need to focus on, how do you need to execute, what do you need to communicate, how do you need to think, in order to win the next play?
The same is true for us each day. Our days are a series of conversations, meetings, tasks, etc. Successful days are made up of successful moments. When you get overwhelmed or distracted during the day come back to the question, “How do I win this moment?”
You win the day by winning the moment. And then the next moment. And then the next moment.
