Mind and Talent

I sent an email over the weekend on 1:1 and group coaching. If you missed, make sure to read it here. A lot of interest and will do multiple groups based on demand.

I love watching the Olympics (though I am definitely a bigger fan of the summer games).
But watching the greatest in the world compete on the biggest stage against each other is always inspiring. So much work goes into a performance that could last less than a minute.
So much pressure on one moment. Some do great with the pressure, some completely fall apart. They spent so much time training their body that they forgot to train their mind.
And when they get into the moment, all they see is fear that comes from pressure, not the opportunity. One thing we work on with athletes is that pressure is how you see it. You can see it as your defining moment, or a chance to learn. You can see it as anxiety, or you can see it as excitement. You can see it as a burden or an opportunity.
And how you see it determines how you respond to it. An untrained mind will always undermine world-class talent.
But the same is true for us. How we view our situation, the meeting we have today, the sales pitch next week, the tough conversation with a colleague we’ve been avoiding. We may think mental performance is only for athletes, but it is for all humans.
Train your mind to work for you, not against you. Look for the good, believe the best, see the opportunity. Then watch your stress lower and your actions rise.
Believe better.
